Setting An Intention

Most of us wake up in the morning and are immediately on autopilot: shower, dress, eat, drive, preparing to conquer the day. We never really know how the day may turn out, if we believe that the Universe dictates our existence and how our life appears at any given moment. Though by setting an intention -- a clear path that we remain committed to—we may feel more in control of our lives.

Have you ever started your day by setting an intention? This is an approach to making a positive change in your life. It is often mentioned by yoga instructors at the beginning of class. The intention is for any timeframe you chose, it might be for a day, week, month, or forever. It is a choice to move forward, making a positive, stated change in your life.

To stay committed to your intention it is helpful to write it down, as a reminder to yourself to stay focused. You may leave a piece of paper beside your bed or set an auto-alert on your smartphone to ring the same time every day to remind yourself of your intention.

If you’re not sure how to set an intention, let me share a few to get you started.

To be a kind person * To learn something new * To love yourself * To become more spiritual * To find a peaceful balance *To reach a milestone

Then, remember to be true to your intention in good times and in bad – let it become a reminder of the direction that you wish for your life.

If you say it, you will start to believe it. If you believe it, you will live it. If you live it, then you become it. –author known
