Where to begin? Well, I’ve spent the past couple of months finding balance in my work- life and family-life. I was fortunate enough in 2015 to have some great opportunities, though with opportunity came change that caused a shift in my day to day life taking things out of balance. As a true Virgo, I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I never give up on things once I have committed to someone or something that is important to me. As a result, I created a lot of stress for myself and I was not doing anything as well as I would have liked.
When we overextend ourselves, we tend to get weighed down bringing on many different feelings, such as inadequacies, irritability, a lack of patience, anger, resentfulness, fear, and anxiety, among others. All of these feelings bring on stress and we all know stress is harmful to our mind and can eventually cause harm to our bodies. When you begin thinking about work life balance for 2016, consider these tips that helped me this year:
- Evaluate what is most important to you at the present moment versus, what “was” important to you a year ago, or what you predict “will” be important to you in the future.
- Keep in mind that change is inevitable and what is important to you today may not be important a month or even a year from now, so seek balance but remain flexible.
- Be open to change, try not to resist it, follow and trust your instincts. The energy flowing around you can help guide you, follow positive feelings that feel “right” for balance.
